Star Citizen / RSI (Robert Space Industries)

18 posts in this topic

From the maker of Wing Commander series and Privateer comes a new High detailed Space sim called Star Citizen. Its space sim dogfighting with MMO elements.

Anyone interested in playing?

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/

UPDATES:

What is it?

its a space sim with MMO ability.

Overview:

What makes it different from other space sims?

It does real newton's law of physics in space combat.

The Physics?

What features it has?

it has FPS (troops), Space combat, exploration and real life elements embedded. You can choose to do whatever you want, Pirating, Bounty, Exploring, Escorting and Trading. You will travel via jump gates and you can even enter atmospheric planets for explorations or trading.

What differentiate it with EVE Online?

its space combat put you in a cockpit. So you control whatever you shoot.

How immersive is it?

Whats the big deal?

Well the big deal is the SCALE. you started as human scale and everything scale around it. The scope of the details on aircraft is phenomenal, all aircraft bigger than fighter will have interior you can WALK in them!

so a transport, merchant, multirole craft will have fully working cabin with sleeping quarter. All weapons hard points rotate and animates. All engines and its thrusters are individually functioned and animated. There is space and atmosphere maneuvering and entering planet atmosphere means some craft has to stow their guns and engines into streamlined mode. Most craft will have working VTOL functionality.

If you have Hanger, it opens. If you have a bathroom, it showers. If you have a toilet, it flushes.

to compare with EVE Online, a typical ship might have hundreds to thousands of polygons... A multirole Constellation craft in Star Citizen has 1.2-1.4millions polygons. Constellation class ship require a FOUR person crew to run, and 2 of them will be gunners, 1 escort fighter pilot and 1 Main ship Pilot.

In the future Bigger ship has to be BOARDED to take over so FPS elements comes in, we will need assault teams or marines to board enemy ship and kill people on board to take control of bigger ship if we want to tow it for our own use.

All about the SCALE:

In game footage cinematic showcase:

How do I join?

At this stage you need to pledge an aircraft package starts on USD40. The package goes up depends on the ship and its function. Later stage they might open up Pilot slots for jobs for hire if you don't have any aircraft so you can earn your way up for you own ship.

Some additional Infos:

Just to show how much details are putting into the game. There is a competition called THE NEXT GREAT STARSHIP was initiated and you can watch the series throughout just to see how much details and thoughts are put into just 1 Gunship class. Everything is up for design and discussion: Engine, Weapons, Dropship capable with all interiors worked out. The ship animates on normal and combat modes as well as mode change in various situations.

THE NEXT GREAT STARSHIP competition:

Currently having to pay to get what they minimally have available does not seem worth it in my opinion. It will still be a long time before this game is even finished and available.

I loved the Wing Commander series of games. When this game is more ready for prime time I might be convinced to pay to play.

However, with the proliferation of free to play / subscriber model games out there, it is gonna need to be something spectacular.

Updated with more infos on 1st thread.

BTW those who pledged a ship package can access to multiplayer Alpha dogfighting modules now. FPS modules will be released soon.

At current stage you will have your pilot on a working hanger and your ship parked in it. You can walk around hanger to enter or navigate around your ship. Unfortunately, you cant fly out the hanger yet, but you can at least see your ship in real time lol.

Some details on Constellation ship for an example of internal details:

Hi Waller,

its currently still in crowd funding stage... the usd15000 package is u get a whole lot of ship for pledge in funding and gets to meet the game creator for a day. That package is sold out.

How this game works when it finally launch will be around usd40 as starter ship package... anything bigger than fighter will means u need to grind in game mmo to earn money for upgrading your ship to bigger class later... or... you could do raider and pirating. if you managed to kill the occupants in the bigger ship without destroying the ship, you technically can capture it. That's where some of the FPS elements comes in, you need boarding party for bigger ships. Eventually, they might launch pilots only package at lower cost where you join the game without a ship but can take on a job till you can afford 1. So you can presume, a really rich clan or corporation can afford a frigate that's run but member of 10 and has few escorts as well, just to show the scale up in operation.

For the insurance, its like real life, if you scrap the ship in game, the ship is gone and insurance will cover for it. If you cant afford for insurance and your ship destroyed, you will need to run jobs for credits so you can afford for a new ship again...when insurance is up in 6months, you just need to pay insurance with in game credit while earning your money. the insurance cost is just a fraction of your operation so its affordable.

Also in this game you have 1 life only. But you can name your next of Kin. What this does is if you DIE in game, your items and ships will pass down to next of kin. It also means all the reputation earned from your original character is gone.

So you will die in this game, it create a different kind of mechanics in playing as your life and reputation means something in this game.

oh the bigger the ship the more expensive it gets, and it requires lots of member to help grind and buy 1. so the bigger the corporation/clan the easier to earn bigger ship.

at current stage, buying the more expensive game package is the EASIEST and CHEAPEST way to own a bigger ship, according to this game economy.

there will be bigger classes of ships coming up, right now these are the classes:

Ship class (number of players required to run)

Scout (1)

Fighter (1)

Heavy Fighter (2)

Gunship (3)

Freigther (4)

Merchant ship (4-5)

Frigate (10) + few more for piloting its fighters

Cruiser (?)

Carrier (?)

? means unconfirmed

That sounds good.

Usually the only reason I play fps games is to make people rage. Hahaha... Playing to capture a spaceship, awesome!

There are people who have admittedly spent 20 grand and upwards already on a game that is not set To be fully released until 2015. Rich people....
